books, check em' out

i am reading a book right now that you all have to read. especially all of my musician friends. it is called Lady Sings the Blues; it's billie holiday's autobiography. even if you aren't a fan of her you will love her story, tragic as it is, and will find her telling of jazz and blues in the 30s/40s very cool. if you don't want to buy it just let me know and i will lend it to you.
here is a little taste:
"Everyone's got to be different. You can't copy anybody and end up with anything. If you copy, it means you're working without any real feeling. And without feeling, whatever you do amounts to nothing.
No two people on earth are alike, and it's got to be that way in music or it isn't music.
I never forget this wonderful old Spainiard, Pablo Casals, who played the cello once on TV. When he finished some Bach he was interviewed by some American chick. 'Every time you play, it's different,' she gushed.
'It must be different,' said Casals. 'How can it be otherwise? Nature is so. And we are nature.'
So there you are. You can't even be like you once were yourself, let alone somebody else."

amber,
i'm into it. but a little cautious to tell you the truth. Derek was pretty distraught when you said you'd wait to read book 5 and then went blazing through it. We book clubbers have “rules”. Very serious rules that you must never ever break. You remember the movie The Skulls ? Well it's like that only more dangerous.

first to derek, i never intended on you leaving our book club. i just thought that talbot could join. i wouldn't dream of having a harry potter book club without you. i'm true blue. plus you need to call me. i want to know where you're at in the phoenix.
second to talbot, it is true that in the past i have gotten a little ahead of my club. i couln't help it. the book was sucking me in. but i have learned my lesson and when we all start book six i will pace myself. on penalty of having my eyes removed. is that going too far?

oh amber youre so silly!!! of course loosing your eyes is not going too far!!! hahahaha!!! youre so cute!!! wouldn't be too cute with out those sparkling eyes though would you!!! let's not kid ourselves, book clubs are very very serious and you don't want to get on someones bad list in a book club because the consequences could be fatal at the least! amber i have people in libraries all around who owe me big and believe me, you do not want to meet up in some dark row in the fiction section with a librarian who owes me anything!

you guys and my wife are disgracing this blog with your book club banter, there shall be no more such talk.

Matt Pool said...

uh, book club...are we going to take that? you obviously do not understand who you are dealing with, pool. we're more powerful than the luthers. so watch yourself. i know where you sleep.

ya well i have the code to change the code to change our password so you won't be able to chatter about dragons and lame ass wizards ever again

These books are sooo rad that in the latest film adaptation we get a cameo from non other than Stone Roses front man Ian Brown. VIVA LA BOOK CLUB!
Now be honest matt, don't you think this might be one of those situations where you act indifferent to what amber is into and then get hooked on it? (wilco, smallville, underpants)
I think we need to move past this.

i've always liked wilco. that was annoying.
